So, "they" say that the Canon 28-135mm is one of the best "walkaround" lenses that Canon have made, it's fairly cheap, it's compact, it's got a good focal range (45-216mm on an APS-C sized Digital body), plus, not a bad macro focus, and an image stabiliser! So it can handle a variation of shooting types. Ok, it's not going to be as good as a proper macro lens, and a bit more focal length would be nice, but it gives you a range of options from a single lens. So I decided to go on a "walkaround" and see if what "they" say is correct. I don't know who "they" are. Canon probably, and why would they say their lens was rubbish anyway? Oh well... just look at the pictures!
